Everett Alvarez High School Interact Club Raises Funds to Support Breast Cancer Treatment Through Natividad Foundation

Salinas, CA – The Everett Alvarez High School (EAHS) Interact Club, proudly presented a check for $8,300 to Natividad Foundation’s Wendy Baker RN Memorial Fund on Thursday, November 14. This brings the club’s total fundraising contributions since 2015 to an impressive $100,725.57, reflecting nearly a decade of dedication to supporting local women facing cancer.

Held at Natividad hospital’s main lobby, the check presentation brought current and former club members, faculty, Rotary representatives, and hospital staff to celebrate this achievement and the ongoing partnership between EAHS Interact Club and Natividad Foundation. The funds raised will support the Wendy Baker RN Memorial Fund, which assists eligible cancer patients with essential needs, including medical treatment, transportation, meals, medication, and other resources that help ease the burdens of cancer care.

Juan Camacho, President of the EAHS Interact Club, expressed the club’s dedication to the cause: “This Pinktober, the Interact Club dedicated itself to supporting the Wendy Baker RN Memorial Fund at our local Natividad hospital. Through various fundraising events, the club encourages young adults to be more compassionate about their community while also helping local families cover the costs of breast cancer treatment.”

Mrs. Kaminskis, EAHS Interact Club advisor, emphasized the positive impact the club has on its members and the community. “Serving as the Interact club advisor has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my teaching career. The club serves as a platform to transform young adults into future philanthropists and foster a culture of caring.

Throughout the school year, the EAHS Interact Club, one of the school’s largest organizations, with around 50 active members, organizes various fundraising events. These students put in the work, hosting bake sales at school, selling orchids, pumpkins, and accessories at sporting games, and finding any opportunity to raise funds and awareness for the Wendy Baker RN Memorial Fund. Their efforts help provide hope and assistance to those affected by cancer, making a direct and lasting impact on local families in need.

With guidance from the Salinas Steinbeck Rotary, the EAHS Interact Club’s mission of “Service Above Self” brings students together to develop essential skills while making a positive impact on the Salinas community.
